Carmichaels Mowers has been a part of the Philip Island community for over fifteen years. Originally run by Rod Carmichael and staff, the business changed hands in 2010 when Steve and Lucy Gallyot took the reins. They have continued to provide sales, servicing and hire of garden equipment and have since added the sale and maintenance of trail bikes. Many locals also draw on Steves extensive experience in small engines when solving common, (and not so common) mechanical problems.
Steve has worked in the small engine industry his entire working life. He began working at a mower shop at the age of sixteen. He completed an apprenticeship in small engines, including motorcycles and marine. Later he worked for leading distributors, Stihl and Echo, in various roles. His roles have included; mechanic, sales representative, marketing coordinator, national service manager, production manager, as well as contributions to product development.
Steve is also an accomplished chainsaw-sculptor and has produced several notable carvings around the Island. He has also been involved in motorcycles since an early age, and has spent time in the Army Reserve. This broad and diverse range of experience has equipped Steve with extensive knowledge and insights into all facets of engine powered equipment.
All of the staff working on equipment, alongside Steve at Carmichaels Mowers, are qualified small engine mechanics and small engine enthusiasts. This brings a combined experience of over fifty years to the workshop. It also produces a genuinely enthusiastic approach to servicing and repairs, with all staff willing to share knowledge with each other and with customers whenever possible.
